5. Is the grass really greener—or just a different shade of brown?

Let’s talk about culture.

Many advisors get frustrated with bureaucracy, lack of recognition, or an old-school hierarchy. But moving firms doesn’t solve that if you land somewhere with the same problems wearing a different polo shirt.

You need to ask:

Does leadership know who I am?

Will I be respected as a partner—or treated like a number?

Do I believe in the firm’s vision?

Can I thrive here… or just survive?

What we’ve seen: Advisors who move for culture—not just comp—are 3x more likely to stay at their new firm for 5+ years.

Mentor tip: Don’t ignore your gut. Interview the leadership like they’re interviewing you. If it doesn’t feel like a good fit during the courtship, it won’t feel better after the honeymoon.
